The title of this article contains three key words, which are: Law, serious and business. Not necessarily in that order of course. Let me pose a question to you. If you currently work in a law firm (in any capacity), which word would you associate most with, I wonder, in describing what your firm (or any law firm for that matter), is about?

The problem with Internet advertising for this general practitioner lawyer is, it costs money every time someone clicks. If a lawyer working by him or herself in Fresno California tries to advertise to people searching, bankruptcy, personal injury, divorce, tax problems, tvistl√∂sning, contract disputes, real estate law, workers compensation and trial law, the lawyer will go broke before anyone ever can write them a check. The keyword bid for “personal injury attorney” is as high as $15.00 per click in some cities. I have seen single keywords like lawyer go for $20.00 per click.

By definition, a projection is not reality. But you still need to analyze your estimated revenue, break-even point, monthly expenses, etc. I would only do it for the first twelve months, because anything beyond that is too unpredictable. Even the first twelve months is unpredictable. It is important to be conservative on your estimates, and define your assumptions.

Conforming to this Law Of Numbers is not as hard as you may think. It’s a simple process of adapting to the 21st century way of doing business. And the 21st Century way of doing business is all on the internet. You see, there are hundreds of thousands of people on the internet everyday looking for a new business opportunity. They are searching for ways to either make money, earn a little extra cash on the side, or potentially replace their full or part-time JOB (Just Over Broke) for financial freedom. Now knowing that all these people are out there searching, there is no way they shouldn’t know about what you have to offer.

Begin describing the type of customers and clients you would like to attract to your business. What kind of qualities and characteristics do they have that you’re looking to find in a customer/client. If you aren’t getting the success you desire from the existing customers, then define what your ideal customer looks like, thinks like and buys like. Focusing on problem customers will just bring more of those headaches your way.
