A Writing Freelance Career – Amateurs Be Forewarned!

Job seekers in today’s economy face a daunting challenge unlike any other in their lives because competition for each available job is so intense that only the most dedicated and skilled seekers catch the attention of employers.

Don’t worry about the job hours. You may have to start second or third shift to begin with. You may have to work weekends and holidays, to begin with. Be flexible, at first. Landing your first job is usually the hardest one. Once you have a job and start to gain experience, you will be in a much better position to look for a better job with better pay, and better hours.

During your freshman year, any job will do just fine. What you are going to be trying to do during this year is to build up an on-campus reputation for being reliable and efficient. Your boss for this job will be the person who will serve as a reference when you go for your next on-campus job.

After revising your cover letter, do a Google search for resume templates and upload some new ones, free of formatting. It’s always a good idea to change up your resume if you haven’t received any responses during your job search. Make sure all the appropriate key words related to your job are found in your resume.

After a plan is formulated, tackle the revision of your resume and cover letter. The cover letter should be no longer than two to three paragraphs and should outline why you want the job, why you’d be great at the job, and a summary of your years of experience. It may be that your cover letter isn’t long enough or doesn’t divulge enough information.

In fact, the company you are currently working for may be willing to allow partial telecommuting. That should be the first place you look. Many companies are testing the waters by allowing employees to work from home on a part-time basis.

Next you must write down your education information. Name of schools attended, dates and type of diploma, certificate, or degree received. Remember also to write down at least 5 references of people, employers, friends that know you well and you have their name, address and telephone number available if they ask you for it.

A number of apps have separate resume databases that attach to another app available for download on the marketplace. For example, EXAMPLE A may have a Job Search App #1 and in that app you have the ability to upload or type up a short resume. The app you are loading this resume into is a job search app, but EXAMPLE A also has a Resume Finder on the marketplace. Your resume will likely be added to this Resume Finder’s database.
